- The selection of steel for blanking dies should mainly consider the die’s lifespan, but lifespan alone is not the sole criterion for selection.
- The material of the stamped part should be considered, such as aluminum, copper, magnesium alloys, ordinary carbon steel, low-alloy steel, spring steel, and silicon steel, among others. Different materials of stamped parts vary greatly in the difficulty of stamping.
- The production volume of the stamped part should be considered. If the batch size is small, there is no need to choose a long-life die.
- Factors such as the shape, size, thickness, dimensional tolerances, and burrs of the stamped part have a significant impact on the die’s lifespan and should also be taken into account.
- The price of the steel grade and the proportion of material costs in the total cost of the die should be considered. If the die has a complex shape and is difficult to machine, with machining costs accounting for a high proportion of the total cost while material costs account for a small proportion, high-performance die steel should be chosen.
- Different materials of stamped parts and the different functions of the die have varying requirements for die hardness. The cutting edge of a blanking die requires high hardness, wear resistance, and a certain level of toughness.
