Cemented carbide (also known as tungsten carbide) is a series of composite materials consisting of tungsten carbide particles bonded together by a metallic binder, cobalt (Co). The aggregates are usually tungsten carbide (WC), titanium carbide (TiC), tantalum carbide (TaC) or niobium carbide (NbC). Because of their unique properties, these materials are widely used in the manufacture of high-speed cutting tools, cold working dies, measuring tools and highly wear-resistant parts.

  1. High hardness, high wear resistance and high red hardness:
The hardness of Cemented Carbide at room temperature ranges up to 86~93HRA, which is equivalent to 69~81HRC. even at high temperatures of 900~1000℃, it still maintains high hardness and shows excellent wear resistance. Compared with high-speed tool steel, the cutting speed of Cemented Carbide can be increased by 4~7 times, the service life is extended by 5~80 times, and it is capable of cutting hard materials with hardness up to 50HRC.
  2. High strength and high modulus of elasticity:
The compressive strength of Cemented Carbide can reach 6000MPa, and the modulus of elasticity is (4~7)×10^5MPa, which is higher than that of high-speed steel. However, its flexural strength is lower, usually 1000~3000MPa.
  3. Good corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance:
Cemented carbide is generally able to withstand atmospheric, acid and alkali corrosion, and is not easy to oxidize.
  4. Small coefficient of linear expansion:
The shape and size of Cemented Carbide remain stable during the working process.

Application field:
Cemented Carbide is known as “industrial teeth” because of its high hardness, high strength, abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance, and is widely used in the manufacture of cutting tools, cutting tools, cobalt and wear-resistant parts. The following are some of the major applications of Cemented Carbide components:
Military
Aerospace
Machinery
Metallurgy
Oil drilling
Mining Tools
Electronic communications
Construction and other areas
These applications can be further categorized into three main areas: engineered components, wear parts, and tools and tool blanks.
